Job Responsibilities

 

  1. Performs routine tasks in the kitchen, dining room or other dietary areas; assists in kitchen by preparing foods for cooking and in cooking operations, such as grinding meats, cleaning poultry and preparing fruits and desserts; prepares, loads and delivers food carts to patient care areas and returns carts to dietary areas; communicates to residents, spouses and dependents in both the English and Spanish language.

 

  1. Assists in serving food on a serving line or serves individual prepared meals and maintains proper portion control; cuts cakes, pies and butter; fills condiment containers and serves beverages.

 

  1. Makes coffee, salads, sandwiches, operates griddle in preparation of such dishes as fried eggs, French toast or pancakes when directed by supervisor; prepares sack lunches to be sent with members on outings; fills food containers for meals served.

 

  1. Performs duties in dishwashing room such as scraping, loading and unloading dishwasher and washing glasses; places clean dishes in proper area in dining room; cleans, maintains, de-limes dish and utensil machines and checks machines for proper temperature during operation.

 

  1. Cleans kitchen equipment such as stoves, hoods, shoppers, grinders, mixers, or refrigerators and food carts; maintains order of kitchen and dining areas; washes pots and pans; cleans tables and chairs in dining room. Cleans, mops, scrubs and sweeps and operates such equipment necessary for maintaining cleanliness and health standards.

 

  1. Operates kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, shoppers, blenders, steamers, grinders, can crusher, can opener, potato peeler, utensil washers, and other equipment that may be necessary in the performance of duties.

 

  1. Checks groceries and food receipts according to requisition lists and menus; tallies items received, stores and notates food properly.

 

       8.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six months experience in dietary. Requires obtaining an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of employment. Requires working knowledge of routine tasks commonly found in the area of assignment. Requires ability to perform unskilled or semi-skilled manual tasks and exhibit skill in the basic operation of tools, machinery and equipment found in the assigned area. Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate effectively to others both in oral and written form. Requires ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Requires ability to determine quality of goods or merchandise by visual inspection to ensure conformance with agency rules, regulations and standards. Requires ability to instruct others in simple methods and procedures that are common to the work area. Require physical ability to lift and/or carry heavy items, to perform physically demanding work or to work under physically demanding conditions. Honorable discharge from U.S. Armed forces preferred.
