Support Service Worker - Dietary

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs routine tasks in the kitchen, dining room, or other dietary area; assists in preparing foods for cooking and in cooking operations, but does not determine ingredients or proportions; assists in serving food either on a serving line or individual plates or trays; assists in all dining room functions.  Prepares, loads, and in certain instances, delivers food carts to member patient care areas and returns carts after serving is completed.

  1. Assists in kitchen by preparing vegetables and other foodstuffs for cooking, such as grinding meats, cleaning poultry, and preparing fruits and desserts.
  2. Serves prepared meals, maintaining proper portion control; cuts cakes, pies and butter; fills condiment containers and serves beverages.
  3. Makes coffee, salads, sandwiches, may operate griddle in preparation of such dishes as fried eggs, French toast or pancakes.
  4. Performs duties in dishwashing room such as scraping, loading and unloading dishwasher and washing glasses; places clean dishes in proper area in dining room; cleans, maintains, de-limes dish and utensil machines and checks machines for proper temperature during operation.
  5. Cleans kitchen equipment such as stoves, hoods, shoppers, grinders, mixers, or refrigerators and food carts; maintains order of kitchen and dining areas; washes pots and pans; cleans tables and chairs in dining room.
  6. Operates kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, shoppers, blenders, steamers, grinders, can crusher, can opener, potato peeler, utensil washers, and other equipment that may be necessary in the performance of duties.
  7. Cleans, mops, scrubs, and sweeps and operates such equipment necessary for maintaining cleanliness and health standards.
  8. Periodically may be rotated as to become knowledgeable and proficient in all functions of the dietary section.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires working knowledge of routine tasks commonly found in the area of assignment.
  • Requires skill in the basic operation machinery and equipment found in the assigned area.
  • Requires ability to instruct others in simple methods and procedures common to the area.
  • In addition to having a written and spoken knowledge of the English language, candidates may be required to speak and write a foreign language at a colloquial skill level in carrying out position duties in conjunction with non-English speaking individuals.

  • May require ability to perform heavy physical work.

Education Degree

 

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six months experience in the support service functional area to which assigned.
