Job Responsibilities
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is looking for student law clerks who will have completed their first or second years of law school by summer 2021. Preferences will be given to students who have completed their second year of law school and are eligible for their Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 licenses during the summer of 2021. A limited number of paid positions are available.
Opportunities are available within the Prosecution units of General, Business, Health-Related, Medical, and Real Estate. Additional opportunites are available within the Legal Affairs units of Professional Regulations, Real Estate, Banking, Financial Institutions, Labor Relations, FOIA, and Adminstrative Hearing. Students will be given the opportunity to rank their prefered units, however, there is a chance selected candidates will be assigned to a different unit.
Student Law Clerks will actively particapte with Prosecutors and Legal Affairs staff in all phases of the regulatory and/or disciplinary process, including: researching administrative and case law, drafting legal memoranda, reviewing proposed legislation and administrative rules, drafting complaints, drafting and responding to motions, making appearances before administrative law judeges at status and formal hearings, and/or attending settlement negotiations, all while gaining intimate knowledge of a variety of financial regulatory and professional Practice Acts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
PSC must be versed in legal research with both the internet and legal books. PSC must be adept at legal writing and be able to draft a legal brief and complaint.

Employment Conditions
Currently attending law school, not a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois.
