Position Overview
Under direction, performs a wide variety of technical and legal duties having responsibility for recommending courses of action to solve regulatory issues; researches and analyzes state and federal laws, rules, and other resources pertaining to industries regulated by the Department; prepares legal correspondence and memoranda, proposed legislation, administrative rules, and other legal documents.

Essential Functions
- Consults with Division of Banking and Division of Financial Institutions staff, regulated entities and individuals, and members of the public regarding questions involving interpretations of applicable state and federal laws, rules, policies, procedures and regulations germane to the industries regulated by the Department.
- Plans, develops, drafts and implements administrative rules, regulations, and enforcement actions and interpretative letters, policies and procedures.
- Provides legal counsel and assistance, often of a sensitive and confidential nature, to staff of the Department concerning legal administrative problems regarding entities and individuals regulated by the Department.
- Serves as backup to the Assistant General Counsel of the Consumer Protection and Enforcement Unit.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties and responsibilities enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires graduation from a recognized law school.
- Requires possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers one year of trial or equivalent experience or training in judicial and quasi-judicial procedure and of the rules of evidence, hearings, and trial procedure.
- Prefers one year of experience performing written analysis of banking, lending and fiduciary services issues.
- Prefers one year of experience working as a licensed attorney.
