Position Overview
The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) is the state’s lead division serving people with disabilities committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and racial justice. The mission of the Division is to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their goals of employment, education, and independent living. The Business Enterprise Program for the Blind provides business opportunities for individuals who are legally blind to manage vending facilities including vending, gift shops, snack bars, and cafeterias This position develops curriculum and provides training to manager trainees as well as current vending managers in Northern Illinois and Cook County. The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire an organized and energetic individual with excellent communication skills to provide accessible and specialized business management instruction individuals who are blind, visually impaired, and/or Deaf/Blind.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a Trainer for the Business Enterprise Program for the Blind (BEPB).
- Works with newly inventoried managers to assist in acclimation as a blind vendor.
- Conducts additional training sessions with vendors.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of trainings.
- Remains updated on current processes, equipment, training principles etc. to provide updated and accurate training to vendors and staff in BEPB.
- Evaluates the progress of everyone in training.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably with the scope of those enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college. Academic course work should include quantitative measures (introductory statistics or business mathematics or social science analytical tools), educational methods, psychology of individuals, organizational or group behavior, labor relations or equivalents.
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in education or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of professional experience training individuals in food service management, financial management, and/or retail sales.
- Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing accessible techniques and adaptive technology to train individuals who are visually impaired, blind, and/or Deaf/Blind.
- Two (2) years of professional experience providing training in a clear and concise manner and in various accessible formats to ensure comprehension of material.
- Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating the effectiveness of a training program, making recommendations, and implementing changes.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with software packages such as Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to develop training programs, handouts, and presentations in various accessible formats.
- Two (2) years of professional experience interacting with and communicating clearly and tactfully with a wide range of individuals that include state agency officials, the public, customers, vendors, legislators, employers, internal and external stakeholders, and employees.
