Position Statement

The Office of Land Management is seeking to hire a Site Technician 2 for the Argyle Lake State Park, as well as associated sites in the Region 1 area.  Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in maintaining and repairing site buildnigs, grounds, and equipment; serves as an ongoing functional supervisor of a small number of lower level site workers engaged in site maintenance and operational activities at Argyle Lake State Park, Massasuaga Nature Preserve, and Grigsby Marsh Natural Area.  

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs a variety of semi-skilled work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades, cuts and places forms for concrete, makes minor plumbing and electrical repairs, and replaces roofing and siding on buildings.  
  2. Repair and replace wood duck boxes, repair picnic tables, maintain site interpretive and directional signs, marks trails.
  3. Mows grass, trim shrubs and tree's, haul trash, plow snow, patch roads, clean and polish floors, disinfect washrooms and fixtures, maintains vehicles and equipment.
  4. Operate equipment such as front end loader, tree spade, stump cutter, and chipper.
  5. Inspect public use area's for hazards such as fallen tree's broken limbs, erosion, broken boards and docks.  Assures buildings and gates are locked properly.  Inform visitors of rules and regulations; in the event of emergencies contacts proper authorities.
  6. Performs routine tasks related to outdoor recreational programs, sells camping permits.
  7. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years maintenance experience.
  2. Requires working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment.
  3. Requires ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  4. Requires ability to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  5. Requires ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, building, and grounds.
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads which may exceed sixty (60) pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
