Job Responsibilities

Under general direction, serves as the staff assistant to the Zone 6 Commander, independtely performing a variety of administrative duties; directs & coordinates special assignments & projects; composes correspondence for the Zone Commander; coordinates incoming requests for information from the public & other law enforcement agencies; exercises independent judgment in making determination of various investigative operational problems & procedures.

 

30%  1.  Directs & coordinates special assignments & projects.

  • Performs research, gathers data, analyzes information & indepdently makes recommendations from available facts or findings.
  • Completes written findings & presents to Zone Commander.
  • Assists with resolution of administrative problems & recommendations for improevement of investigative operations.

20%  2.   Serves as staff assistant to the Zone 6 Commander, while performing liaison work as a represetntative with various entities within the Illinois State Police (ISP), Zone 5 managers & their staff; local, state, county & federal agenices & the general public.

  • Assists in the effectuaion of new or existing policies & programs, makes recommendations & suggestions as to content & implentation.  
  • Attends meetings relevant to the operation of Zone 6.

20%  3.  Independently composes correspondence for the Zone 6 Commander to be distributed to investigative personnel & other entities within the ISP & to the general public.

  • Exercises signature authority fot eh Zone 6 Commander.
  • Gathers resource information from a variety of sources.
  •  Reviews & makes recommendations to aid the Zone Commander in the decision making process regarding available facts for his/her use during speeches, press conferences & individaul or group meetings.

10%  4.  Coordinates & electronically tracks incoming requests for information from the public & other law enforcement agencies.

  • Organizes & electronically tracks assignments & requests from Region Commander.
  • Maintains & updates the Zone 6 Commander's schedule & appointments.

10%  5.  Serves as the Zone 6 inventory property manager.  

  • Coordinates the quarterly & yearly inventories & maintains the inventory contral data base for all equipment assigned to Zone 6. 

5%  6.  Reviews & edits correspondence & reports generated by Zone 6 staff.

  • Coordinates all travel arrangements for Zone 6 investigative personnel, preparing all invoce & travel vouchers.
  • Expenditures of Official Advance Funds.
  • Prepares routine & non-routine correspondence.
  • Serves as back-up to Region IV & Distrct 11.
  • Determines procedures for maintaining various information files, records & reports relative to the operation of Zone 6.
  • Advises sworn & code employees regarding policies & procedures on intitiating various personnel transactions.

5%  7.   Other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
