This position is being hired as a Personal Service Contract and is not subject to the State pension program. Work schedule is 3 days per week for the length of the racing season.
The contract is renewable for an additional year at the agency's discretion.

Essential Functions
- Monitor and evaluate all live races for compliance with racing rules and regulations.
- Adjudicate potential violations and report the activities of the races.
- Coordinate with other race officials prior to the start of the daily race program and adjust as necessary to ensure the safety of participants and that appropriate personnel are in place.
- Work with Board management and veterinarians to ensure compliance with procedures and rules to protect equine health and safety, including medication and drug administration.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the horse racing industry with a minimum of 3 of those years as a racing official.
- ROAP level 3 Flat Racing accreditation or higher.
- Minimum of two years of experience using spreadsheets and document creation software to create reports and simple spreadsheets for reporting, logging, and tracking of information.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent with emphasis in horseracing or equine emphasis preferred.
- Minimum of one full race meet of experience using TrackManager and ARCI database.
- Minimum of one full race meet actively participating in administrative hearings.
- Minimum of five full race meets working in the Racing Office of a racetrack.
- Minimum of one full race meet of Steward experience judging live races under HISA/HIWU rules.
- Ability to recognize racing interference and knowledge of the process of remedying an infraction.
- Ability to evaluate potential licensees for suitability and licensure.
Employment Conditions
- Ability to travel to all locations under jurisdiction of Illinois Racing Board.
- Employee and members of household must not have held an Illinois Racing Board license in the 12-month period prior to hire.
- Employee and members of household must not have had an economic interest in a license holder (licensee), including employment, in the 12-month period prior to hire.
