Position Description and Responsibilities

 

Under the general supervision of the R&C Center Business Administrator (Public Service Administrator), maintains a complex set of books for the Inmate Trust Fund; reviews, tabulates and maintains the automated Inmate Trust Fund System; verifies accuracy of the Trust Fund General Ledger balance with the Daily Batch Entry Control Worksheet and accounts for accuracy of check register with inmates monies received and disbursed; reconciles accounts.

 

35%    Maintains accurate Inmate Trust Fund accounts by inputting the monies received on a daily basis.

 

30%    Verifies the accuracy of inmate payroll sheets submitted by supervisors and the payroll printout from word processing before posting to individual Trust Fund accounts.

 

20%    Processes the Trust Fund balance, gets money and transportation receipts for discharged and paroled inmates at the institution, replies to all inmate correspondence.

 

10%    Provides information in the presentation of the weekly orientation of new inmate arrivals.

 

05%    Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  2. Requires working knowledge of accounting techniques.
  3. Requires working knowledge of state or non-state accounting procedures.
  4. Requires working knowledge of office methods and procedures.
  5. Requires working knowledge of principles and functions of standard office accounting machines and equipment.

 

Conditions of Employment

 

  1. Requires the ability to pass the Illinois Department of Corrections background check. 
  2. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy.  The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
