Position Overview

 

Under direct supervision of the Stationary Engineer-Chief, performs skilled tasks in the building, renovation, repair and/or otherwise maintenance of masonry structures and buildings; instructs and supervises offender work crews as assigned engaged in performing or assisting with similar masonry duties.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  1. Performs general masonry work in the repair, renovation, maintenance, and construction or alternation of buildings, doorways, window opening, curbs, sidewalks and other masonry structures.
  2. Maintenance and repair of buildings including plastering, patchwork, tuckpointing, floors, chimneys, block glass, windows, and parapet walls.
  3. Instructs and supervises offender work crew as assigned.
  4. Reviews work orders and projects.
  5. Maintains shop area.
  6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Requires extensive knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the trade.
  • Requires skill in the use of tools of the trade.
  • Requires ability to instruct and direct unskilled workers.
  • Requires ability to perform all tasks usually associated with brick masons.
  • Requires ability to read, interpret and work from plans, simple drawings or sketches.

 

Conditions of Employment

 

  1. Requires the ability to pass the Illinois Department of Corrections background check.
  2. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.
