Position Description and Responsibilities

 

Under direct supervision of the unit’s Correctional Casework Supervisor, provides guidance and counseling services to appointed caseload; conducts rounds in assigned cellhouse; documents requests from inmates; serves as a member of various institutional committees; conducts initial interviews for newly admitted inmates; offers recommendations to Assignment Committee; prepares and submits reports as required.

 

25%    Provides individual and group counseling to inmates exhibiting personal, social, emotional or health problems.

 

20%    Interviews inmates to assess their needs, problems, or attitudes.

 

15%    Serves as member and/or Hearing officer for various institutional committees including Program Team, Assignment Committee and Adjustment Committee.

 

10%    Documents and maintains files of all inmate encounters.

 

10%    Provides input into the preparation of plans to improve facility’s counseling and guidance services and enhancement of the reentry program initiatives.

 

10%    Conduct initial interviews with newly admitted inmates for the purpose of classification, escape risk status, and development of realistic goals using available data and previous records.

 

05%    Attends in-service training and staff meeting to enhance professional skills and techniques.

 

05%    Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a bachelor's degree in behavioral or social sciences.
