Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Superintendent III at Donnelley Fish Wildlife Area for The Office of Land Management. This position promotes Department activities and programs, provides guidance and training to staff in order to meet day-to-day operating needs, operate trucks with trailers hauling equipment at times in excess of 26.001 pounds with Air Brakes, participate in building and ground maintenance, maintain and operate pumping systems, farm equipment and water control structures. The Donnelley State Fish and Wildlife Areas complex contains a variety of Wetland habitats and is managed primarily for migratory waterfowl feeding, nesting, resting, hunting and viewing. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Under direction, manages the operation and development of Donnelley/Depue SFWA and Green River State Wildlife Area.
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance of site grounds, facilities, and equipment.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements site activities and programs compatible with the natural/cultural resource base.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the media and interested groups of individuals.
  • Assists visitors and general public with site information, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties 'enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in park and recreation administration, or natural resources area administration, or in a museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
  • Requires four years of supervisory experience in managing an outdoor recreational park, or natural public area, or a cultural/historic site or museum.
  • Requires valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of working knowledge of principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resources conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
  • Two (2) years of experience assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
  • Two (2) years of experience applying appropriate levels of knowledge in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Two (2) years of experience expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining and operating diesel, electric, or PTO driven pumping systems.
  • Two (2) years of experience in agricultural farming.

Charged with preserving, protecting and promoting Illinois’ natural and cultural resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
