SITE TECHNICIAN II

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Donnelley State Fish & Wildlife Area. This position assists with improvement projects to: buildings and grounds, trails, water control structures, wildlife habitat facilities and operates the hunter check stations. This position also transports farm equipment for maintenance and performs routine maintenance to vehicles and equipment. The Donnelley State Fish & Wildlife Area is well known for its migratory waterfowl. It is the site of one of the nation's first public youth waterfowl hunts and has 676 huntable acres. Since the area borders the Illinois River boating and fishing are also popular activities. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. 

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, performs semi-skill duties, participates in maintenance of the site.
• Operates equipment, trucks and tractors, a 10-ton, 2-ton and 1-ton trucks with trailers with a GCWR of 26001 or more pounds with Air Brakes.
• Performs semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance.
• Maintains building interiors including sweeping, mopping, waxing and polishing floors.
• Maintains current hazardous waste 40-hour training and yearly 8-hour refresher courses.
• Assists in implementing the safety and security programs at the site.
• On an intermittent or seasonal basis provides leadership and direction to volunteers and conservation workers.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated
  above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
• Requires possession of a valid Class A CDL driver’s license with Air Brakes designation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions
• Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. 
• Ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment
• Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
• Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification
• Successfully complete training for Hazardous Waste Work Worker Training to include 40-hour initial training with yearly 8-hour refresher with annual medical monitoring surveillance
