Position Overview

This position serves as the Director of Nursing for Decatur Correctional Center. The incumbent will work as a full-line supervisor to nursing staff, assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance and training to assigned staff, scheduling staff to meet day-to-day operating needs, establish annual goals and objectives. The incumbent will work with state and contractual staff and monitor the quality of care given to our patients. The Director of Nursing will assist with the monthly reports, have open communication with the Office of Health Services, assist with CQI data collection and studies, as well as audit completion. The facility provides a continuum of programs and services to help female individuals in custody re-establish and strengthen their relationships with their children and enhance their ability to grow within the family structure. Essential Functions

  1. Serves as full-line supervisor.
  2. Provides direction, assistance and example on nursing treatments and procedures.
  3. Schedules special clinics and reviews lines for proper care and follow-up.
  4. Manages nursing staff documents.
  5. Serves as an auditor for the Internal Audit Team, an instructor for Employee Module Training and Grievance Officer.
  6. Acts as liaison for outside specialty clinics, hospitals, as directed.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1.  Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
  2.  Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  3.  Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible Registered Nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience supervising professional staff.  
  2. Prefers at least one (1) year working experience in a correctional setting.
  3. Prefers at least one (1) year professional experience delivering in-service training.
  4. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience interpreting and monitoring healthcare contracts.
  5. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience making nursing schedules for twenty-four/seven (24/7) healthcare facility.
  6. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with problem solving patient complaints. 
  7. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional maintaining a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program along with recommending and implementing improvements.
  8. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with data collection and preparing reports.
  9. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with professional experience auditing healthcare records for accuracy and ensuring compliance with medical policies and procedures.
  10. Prefers Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification.
  2. Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
