Position Overview
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Division of Administration, Division Manager’s Office/Administrative Support, Northern Region/Chicago Unit is seeking an Office Associate, Option Spanish Speaking. This position performs a variety of complex and specialized clerical duties. The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of complex and specialized clerical duties for the Northern Region/Des Plaines Regional Office.
- Receives, screens, and directs incoming telephone calls from general public and Agency staff.
- Maintains complex and specialized filing systems.
- Receives, opens, sorts, and distributes incoming mail, posts outgoing mail, and maintains procedure manual for specialized mailing practices.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
- Requires the ability to communicate in Spanish verbally and in writing at a colloquial level with Spanish-speaking clients.
- Requires skill in keyboarding accurately at 45 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs.
- Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Prefers working knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Prefers elementary knowledge of agency programs, rules, and regulations.
- Prefers ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel software.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Requires the ability to pass a name-based background check.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
