Job Responsibilities

Under direction of the Director of Nursing during assigned shift delivers care and treatment for individuals served by Mabley Center consistent with and in adherence to individual treatment plans.  Provides leadership and direction to lower level staff in admiinistration of treatment procedures.  Assigns duties to lower level staff, reviews and monitors work, provides input into performance, approves time off in the absence of supervisor, reassigns subordinate personnel to meet day-to-day operation needs; assists with inventories and ordering supplies.  Provides orientation and on the job training to new staff and conducts peer reviews.  Administers medication to individuals served, provides emergency care, assists in range of motion exercises.  Verifies compliance with the Department of Human Services and Mabley Developmental Center policies and procedures, Public Aid regulations, Public Health standards, HCFA standards, CARF standards, Joint Commission Accreditation standards and other applicable laws and regulations.  Utlizes sign language for communication with individuals served.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in as associate or diploma degree in nursing and two years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; or (b) a bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or (c) a master's degree in nursing.  Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Requires extensive training in some anatomy (muscular Skeletal and nervous systems), medical terminology, range of motion exercises accompanied with stretching, variety of positioning techniques, use of various rehabilitation equipment and contraindications of therapy treatments.  Requires knowledge of pharmacology of common prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions.  Requires physical ability to provide treatments.  Requires the ability to accomplish unit rounds and facility-wide emergency medical duties.  Requires the ability to perform or deliver mouth-to-mask CPR and manual resuscitation.  Requires ability to communicate in sign language at a colloquial skill level. 

Employment Conditions

Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Requires CPR certification. 

 

Education Degree
