Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an Administrative Assistant I for the Mabley Developmental Center located in Dixon, Illinois to serve as the facility-wide Resident Safety Officer. This position coordinates and facilitates the center Environment of Care Management Program by monitoring the physical environment for safety issues; assists in the planning, developing, and installing of agency programs and procedures: direct and/or participates in studies to evaluate existing and proposed programs and recommends improved safety measures to Clinical Executive Staff.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the facility-wide Resident Safety Officer at the Mabley Developmental Center.
- Coordinates the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of each management plan and the Emergency Operations Plan.
- Chairs the EoC Safety Committee and serves on related committees.
- Directs and/or participates in studies to evaluate existing and proposed programs.
- Participates in Critical Incident Reviews (CIRs) and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) as part of the Patient Safety Program, National Patient Safety Group (NPSG), and Culture of Safety.
- Conducts and monitors in-service training of staff to verify services are delivered in a manner consistent with applicable standards and policies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties listed above.
Minimum Qualifcations
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
- Requires one (1) year of professional experience in a public or private organization OR completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience working with standards and compliance regulatory bodies such as Centers for Medicaid & Medicare (CMS), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Joint Commission and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Three (3) years of experience implementing a safety program for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience identifying potential risks in the environment, including physical threats for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of experience creating, aggregating and presenting reports in Excel, PowerPoint or Publisher.
- Two (2) years of experience facilitating committee meetings including creating agendas and preparing minutes.
- Two (2) years of experience assessing effectiveness of and improvements for environment of care.
- Five (5) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment

- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, working 1 late day per week (choice of day, 12:30pm - 9:00pm) and working 1 weekend day per month (choice of 1st, 3rd, or 4th Saturday/Sunday), 8:30am - 4:00pm, 1-hour unpaid lunch, Unit CI/QA
