The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals, for temporary employment not to exceed 6 months, for the Du Quoin State Fair summer season. Essential Functions

  • Under immediate supervision, and on a temporary basis for a period not to exceed 6 months, performs a variety of unskilled manual labor and/or simple clerical duties.
  • Provides Customer Service to the general public, vendors, competitors/participants, and volunteers regarding the Du Quoin State fair (DSF) and events that happen prior to, during, or after the DSF.
  • Responsible for assisting the DSF office with customer sales and services.
  • Performs data entry or other computer work using computer programs specific to the DSF as well as with office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Performs various office/clerical functions.
  • Assists with various  operational functions of the DSF.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of schooling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers experience with working with and assisting the public with general inquiries.
  • Prefers experience with basic office equipment and computer programs.
  • Prefers elementary knowledge of basic math and alphabetizing.
  • Prefers experience with cash handling.
  • Prefers experience with maintaining satisfactory working relationships with management, other employees, and members of the public.
  • Prefers experience with understanding and following written and oral instructions.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to work all 11 days of the DuQuoin State Fair, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work for up to 10 hours a day or more, possibly outside.
  • This position may require a valid driver’s license.
  • This position may require the ability to complete a good deal of walking, standing, and sitting.

We are looking to fill positions in the area outlined below:

 

*  Special Events - Assisting with all special events that are taking place on the grounds throughout the day during the entire fair

*  Parking and Selling - Sell parking passes to fair patrons and direct them to parking spaces

*  Campground Attendant - Assist with camper's needs (Must be at least 18 and a valid driver's license)

*  Trams - Drive tractor trams to transport guest around the fair grounds  (Must be at least 18 and a valid driver's license)

 

Applications will be scored and ranked from highest to lowest score.  Applicants will be offered employment in score order. Applicants scoring 1 or less will only be contacted if necessary to fill any vacant positions. Submit applications as early as possible as offers of employment will begin on June 1, 2025, and will continue to be made to qualified applicants in ranking order until all positions for the entire season are filled.
