Position Description and Responsibilities

 

Under general supervision of the Stationary Engineer-Chief at the East Moline Correctional Center, performs journey-level tasks in the painting, decorating and refinishing of building interiors and exteriors and other structures, equipment and fixtures. Instructs and supervises residents and assigned employee helpers.

 

40%  Responsible for the planning, patching, preparation, and painting of various areas throughout the facility.

 

40%  Responsible for and maintains a paint shop where all paint and supplies are kept.

 

15%  Assists in other areas as required, such as, window replacement and cleaning.

 

5%  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. 
  2. Requires successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and two (2) years of full-time journey level painter experience; or six (6) years of full-time journey level painter experience.
  3. Requires working knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and standard practices of the trade.
  4. Requires ability to make simple mathematical computations in estimating area of surfaces to be painted.
  5. Requires ability to estimate time, labor, and materials necessary to complete work orders.
  6. Requires ability to instruct and direct unskilled workers and/or inmates.
  7. Requires ability to blend paints and match colors.
  8. Requires ability to maintain records.
  9. Requires skill in the use of the tools of the trade such as paint brushes, paint rollers, paint sprayers, paint pans, razor scraper, putty knife, power sanders, buffers, power washers, etc.

  1. Requires the ability to pass the Illinois Department of Corrections background check. 
  2. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.
