Position Overview

Under the direction of the Stationary Engineer-Chief, this position supervises Individuals in Custody in the maintenance of institutional lawns and drives, maintaining safety, disciplinary and custodial measures.  This position would be an excellent fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors and creating a functional, safe, and visually appealing outdoor space.  We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. 
  2. Requires two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance and gardening.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Requires extensive knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment and insecticides.
  2. Requires extensive knowledge of plant husbandry.
  3. Requires extensive knowledge of institutional rules, regulations, and requirements for the control of Individuals in Custody.

 

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six months of employment.
  2. Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  3. Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.  On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.  Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department's zero tolerance Drug Testing policy.  The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee regardless of the position held is prohibited.
