Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire an Office Associate to perform and be responsible for secretarial and administrative duties in support of the Bureau of Administrative Services, Personnel and Safety/Claims staff. The ideal candidate will function independently within the framework of organizational policies, exercising imitative and independent judgment on the promulgation and interpretation of the bureau’s policies and programs.
Essential Functions
- As Office Associate in the Safety and Claims Unit of Personnel Services, provides clerical support and performs responsible and complex clerical work.
- Organizes information relative to legal documents.
- Provides support to the district Safety Representative.
- Serves as the receptionist for the Personnel Services Unit.
- Serves as section timekeeper and travel coordinator for the Bureau of Administrative Services.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 55 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers knowledge of word processing software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Prefers working knowledge of office practices and procedures in areas of accident claims, safety and/or worker compensation.
- Prefers ability to maintain clerical records and prepare reports for such records.
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
