Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Board-Certified Psychiatrist to serve as an Associate Medical Director for the Elgin Mental Health Center. The Associate Director will monitor, supervise and coordinate the clinical psychiatric and medical support services program for the Elgin Mental Health Center in Elgin. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in the planning and delivery of psychiatric medical services to patients served at the center. The Elgin Mental Health Center provides treatment for release and restoration of the people we serve. It is a place of hope for the healing of mind, body and spirit where many find health and happiness again.

Job Responsibilities

25%     1.  Serves as Associate Medical Director for the Elgin Mental Health Center.


25%     2.  Serves as full-line supervisor.


25%     3.  Serves as primary resource person in directing the analysis and review of clinical and psychiatric consultations to physicians.


15%     4.  Serves as a subject matter expert in the planning and delivery of psychiatric medical services wtihin the Elgin Mental Health Center.


  5%     5.  Coordinates and determines the need for outside medical consultants.


  5%     6.  Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and an American Board of Medical Specialties certification or its equivalent in the medical specialty of Psychiatry.
  2. Requires two (2) years of medical practice experience in a field of medicine that is related to the clinical/psychiatric medical program.

Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)

  1. Five (5) years of professional experience monitoring and directing a clinical psychiatric medical support services program.
  2. Five (5) years of professional experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, standards of care and long-range objectives for improving/enhancing systems to optimize services to patients.
  3. Five (5) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on medical services and treatments provided to patients and/or individuals.
  4. Five (5) years of professional experience supervising staff in the medical field.
  5. Five (5) years of professional experience communicating with both internal and/or external stakeholders daily on medical services.
  6. Two (2) years of professional experience conducting analysis and review of clinical and psychiatric consultations.
  7. Two (2) years of professional experience recommending changes to treatment plans for improving/enhancing services to patients.
  8. Two (2) years of professional experience as a physician working with concepts and practices in Psychiatry.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to be available by phone after business hours, weekends and holidays.
