Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician I for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to perform beginning level duties associated with the direct care and treatment, designed to help patients within an assigned group area, to achieve greater mental, physical, and social development. Verifies compliance to Facility philosophy, program, procedures, and practices, and ensures that the clinical services are appropriate with respect to cultural needs, chronological age, developmental age, and social classification. Travels in performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
- Performs beginning level duties associated with the direct care and treatment, designed to help patients within an assigned group area, to achieve greater mental, physical, and social development.
- Provides physical support to patients with personal care services.
- Assists higher level staff conduct individual and group programs
- Verifies patient safety and protection through monitoring, supervision, and oversight.
- Teaches and directs patients in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and secure environment.
- Attends and completes scheduled training as required by Department of Human Services (DHS), the facility and the programmatic unit.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician Trainee level.

Requires the ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending and lifting.

Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Requires the ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others.

Requires the ability to travel.

Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.

Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
