Position Overview
Under general direction of the Medical Director, performs general medical examinations facility-wide; provides diagnostic and treatment services; provides facility-wide consultation in internal medicine to medical staff; provides in-service training to other staff; serves as an intermediary and advocate for patients during community-based consultations, treatment and outpatient care.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive medical care and treatment of disorders relating to internal medicine facility-wide. Reviews each patients’ medical status and provides medical care and treatment. Writes comprehensive health care notes concerning the patient’s medical status and orders medications, laboratory tests and/or consultations. Provides each patient a thorough physical examination in accord with medical needs and makes medical diagnoses.
- Makes daily rounds evaluating patients’ progress and treatment.
- Refers patients to community-based providers for specialized consultation, treatment, and inpatient care.
- Serves as Physician on Call.
- Provides consultation in internal medicine to other medical and direct care staff.
- Serves as an active member on committees.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in internal medicine.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
