Job Responsibilities

Under general direction as an Illinois licensed physician, practices as a medical specialist in psychiatry in providing services to mentally ill patients. Practices as a Psychiatrist utilizing psychiatry specialty 80% or more of the working day and general physician duties for the balance of the workday. Provides psychiatric diagnosis on the treatment unit; assists and/or coordinates the treatment planning for various types of patients; serves as consultant to other non-psychiatric physicians and professional staff on the unit regarding patient progress, medical or psychometric procedures and development of overall treatment plans; assures that the clinical services are appropriate to the adult population with mental illness/developmental disability and to the mental and physical developmental stages of the individual patients. Provides court testimony.

 

SPECIFICALLY:

 

40%       Practices as a medical specialist in psychiatry in providing services to mentally ill patients. Practices as a Psychiatrist utilizing psychiatry specialty 80% or more of the working day and general physician duties for the balance of the workday. Conducts psychiatric evaluations, orders and interprets laboratory tests and other medical and clinical diagnostic procedures; prescribes medication and other therapeutic treatment procedures; performs psychiatric examinations, makes psychiatric diagnosis and provides psychiatric treatment and services to patients; serves on a professional treatment team charged with the development and treatment plans; evaluates patients progress, provides individual, group and family therapy and provides court testimony for mental health.

 

35%       Serves as a unit Psychiatrist and coordinates treatment plans for optimum patient care. Performs and writes evaluation and program notes; assists and/or coordinates the treatment planning for various types of patients. Assures that the clinical services are appropriate to the adult population with mental illness/developmental disability and to the mental and physical developmental stages of the individual patients.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

10%       Serves as consultant to other non-psychiatric physicians and professional staff on the unit regarding patient progress, medical or psychometric procedures and development of overall treatment plan. Provides specialized psychiatric consultation or program and policy advisement services to other program physicians, facility, or departmental administrators; serves on medical committees, unit meetings, specialized evaluations, and task force programs.

 

10%       Facilitates and provides guidance in the development of treatment plans that represents a collaborative approach towards treatment of patients; evaluates to ensure that the medical and psychiatric services provided by the treatment team meet state and professional standards.

 

5%         Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in the job-related medical specialty of psychiatry or rehabilitation medicine.
