Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision, provides a full range of professional nursing services in the care and treatment of mentally ill patients, serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
SPECIFICALLY:
30% As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, plans and provides direct patient care to psychiatric inpatients based on assessment of patients’ needs. Develops health care treatment plans, assesses and documents the patients’ status upon admission and throughout the treatment episode in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provides unit orientation for newly admitted patients and their family members.
25% Develops a written plan of care utilizing nursing diagnoses. Encourages patient and family participation in the formulation and revision of the treatment care plan. Implements the treatment care plan and documents patients’ response. Re-evaluates and revises plan of care based on patient’s status. Responds to all Red Alerts/Code Blues and other Medical Alerts: administers emergency medical care including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and manual resuscitation.
20% Carries out treatments ordered by the physician including positioning patients for medical treatments, administers medications, monitors vital signs, examines patients, and monitors mental and physical conditions and reactions to various treatments. Arranges for and provides basic laboratory tests as prescribed by a physician and assures that necessary precautions are taken in regards to tests and providing emergency treatments; checks the condition of patients.
10% Makes regular rounds of the unit checking for cleanliness of the environment and inventories, orders, and maintains security of medications, drugs, and other medical equipment and supplies.
10% Provides unit orientation for new staff and trainees. Provides advice and consultation to other units based health care workers. Completes mandatory training and participates in continuing education to maintain age specific professional competency; stays abreast of the new and revised facility and state policies and procedures.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Employment Conditions
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
