SITE TECHNICIAN II

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position assists with improvement projects to buildings and grounds, trails, waterways, structures, and wildlife habitat facilities, provide maintenance to vehicles, equipment, and assists with outdoor recreational programs. Saline County State Fish & Wildlife Area, 5 miles southeast of Equality in southeastern Illinois, was the site of springs and wells that furnished brine for one of the two salt works. Today the area primarily is a recreational site. The site now totals 1,270 acres, which includes a beautiful 105-acre lake. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. 

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment at Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area and its satellite locations.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of site buildings and grounds.
• Participates in the operation of the site programs.
• Performs semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep of the sites.
• Assists with the safety and security of the sites.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
• Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions
• Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

8. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
