Position Statement

Under direct supervision, repairs and maintain buildings, fixtures, equipment and regularly operates heavy equipment at Eagle Creek State Park.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Operates road grader, back hoe, and front end loaders for moving of rock, leveling of camp pads, erosion control, opening of ditches, and multi-floral rose eradication; makes, installs, and maintains signs; utilizes carpentry skills in building trail head signs, benches, and play equipment; makes minor repairs to air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  2. Mows site grounds utilizing tractors, bushhogs, riding and hand mowers; clears vegetation with tractors, chain saws, and weedeaters; rakes leaves.
  3. Cleans and disinfects restrooms and shower buildings; plants trees, shrubs, grass and flowers; repairs and paints picnic tables and stoves; plows and shovels snow; patches roads; re-roofs/re-shingles buildings and picnic shelters; builds concrete forms.
  4. Sells camping permits and collects fees; tends hunter check stations; directs traffic.
  5. Assists in implementing safety and security programs at the site; inspects public use areas for hazards, flooding, broken equipment, fallen trees and erosion; assures buildings and gates are properly locked; informs visitors of rules and regulations; assists in the rescue of injured or stranded site visitors; administers First Aid and CPR; in the event of emergencies or disturbances, contacts proper authorities.
  6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
  2. Requires two (2) year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of equipment and tools used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment, farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Ability to administer First Aid and CPR and maintain certification in such.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.
  • Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings and grounds. 

Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads which may exceed sixty (60) pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.

  • Requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Work Hours:  Mid-Dec - Mar: Mon-Fri 7:30am-3:30pm; April to Mid-Dec:  7:30am-3:30pm, rotating days off Sat/Sun and Mon/Tues; Holiday weekends during camping season an also include a 3pm-11pm shift.  All shifts include 1/2 hr. lunch.
