Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire two Site Tech 2 at Ferne Clyffe State Park. This position will perform maintenance on roadways and make improvements to structures, facilities and waterways to Ferne Clyfee and its satellite locations, perform basic electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry and painting on buildings, restrooms and signs, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and perform routine maintenance on site vehicles. Ferne Clyffe State Park has been known as an outstanding natural scenic spot. An abundance of ferns, unique geological features and unusual plants create an atmosphere that enhances the many recreational facilities offered at the park. Visitors can enjoy camping, picnicking, hiking, hunting and fishing. We welcome all interested and qualified applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.
Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and improvements to structures, facilities, waterways, day use areas at Ferne Clyffe State Park and satellite locations.
- Performs repairs and routine maintenance on site vehicles, equipment, and signage.
- Participates in site grounds and facility maintenance.
- Provides support to the hunting and interpretive programs of the site.
- Serves as lead worker to seasonal or volunteer workers engaged in routine site maintenance and operational activities.
- Assists in implementing safety and security at the site.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated
above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
- One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
- One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Requires appropriate, valid Driver's License.
- Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
- Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Requires abiliity to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Requires abiliity to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Office of Land Management

The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
