Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent II at Pere Marquette State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will provide guidance and training to assigned staff, reassign staff to meet day-to-day operating needs, oversee the shelter and campground reservation program, and coordinate other site programs including camping, hiking, equestrian, hunting, trapping, Upper Group Camp Lottery, Upper Group Camp Archery, and concessions. Pere Marquette State Park is a nature lover's paradise. In addition to enjoying the spectacular views of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating. Essential Functions
- Under general direction of the Site Superintendent, serves as a working supervisor to park staff engaged in visitor services, security and water and sewage treatment plant operations.
- Supervises and participates in the operation of the Visitor Center.
- Oversees the security of the site and the water/sewage treatment plants.
- Assists the Site Superintendent in the preparation of annual and seasonal plans of work.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with courses in public administration, park and recreation administration, natural resource administration or a related field and one year's related line supervisory experience.
- Requires appropriate, valid commercial Class A CDL driver’s license with Air Brakes designation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management
- Two (2) years of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees.
- Two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
- One (1) year of experience in evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
- One (1) year of experience in operating and maintaining tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
