Position Overview
The Illinois Departement of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Services Specialist 2 at the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site. This position will serve as a supervisor establishing annual goals and objectives, coordinate the activities of site volunteers, seasonal interpreters and provide guidance and training to staff. The selected candidate will oversee planning and installation of temporary exhibits to enhance the interpretive program, conduct tours, educational programs, and various workshops for volunteers and interested persons, oversee the site's period clothing prgram and dress in period clothing as needed when performing, assist with the acquisition of historical or reproduction artifacts, prepare a quarterly newsletter, annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and travel to various historic sites. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision of the Site Superintendent, plans, directs, and supervises staff engaged in historic site interpretive activities, volunteer service activities, and educational programming including special events, tours and other activities.
- Functions as site interpretive training coordinator.
- Serves as working supervisor.
- Recruits, trains, schedules and coordinates seasonal interpreters and volunteers at the site.
- Serves as Site Volunteer Coordinator.
- Oversees the care of collections and reproductions.
- Performs other duties as requires or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with courses in history, archaeology, anthropology, cultural science, park and recreation programming, liberal arts, or museum studies supplemented by four years of related historic site interpretive program coordination or functional supervisory experience. Related experience may be substituted for college education, but completion of high school or possession of a G.E.D. Certificate is a minimum educational requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of American, Illinois and local history.
- Extensive knowledge of research techniques, interpretive methodology and local historical resources.
- Working knowledge in the operation of computer systems and audio-visual equipment.
- Two (2) years of experience developing written and oral interpretive information and presenting it before employees, groups, organizations, general public, educational administrators, teachers, and students.
- Two (2) years of experience evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and materials and assessing the need of further site training.
- Two (2) years of experience writing research findings with meaning and clarify in a manner that achieves comprehension.

- Requires ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed.

Work Hours: Regular schedule Mon.-Fri. 8:30am - 5:00pm, 1-hr lunch. Rotation every 3rd weekend. Rotation week off Fri. work Sat. & Sun. off Mon.
