Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Financial Review Worker. Under general supervision, this position will perform professional accounting and auditing work, utilizing accounting principles, methods, and techniques which are specifically related to the Department’s Financial Review Program. The position will conduct field audits, limited audits, and desk reviews of private agencies within assigned areas, reviewing financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and procedures. This position will prepare comprehensive audit reports of results and will serve as liaison with private agencies within assigned areas. Essential Functions
- Serves as Financial Review Worker
- Prepares comprehensive audit reports of results from field audits, limited audits, and desk reviews of private agencies and communicates findings to supervisor and Department management
- Serves as liaison with private agencies within assigned areas to resolve discrepancies and problem areas found in the course of the field audit/limited audit/desk review
- Attends and provides input into staff meetings
- Makes recommendations for changes in auditing, accounting, and fiscal systems, procedures, and methods
- Confers with management in the resolution of more difficult, complex private agency field audit findings
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting OR four years of technical accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of nine semester hours in accounting
- 2 years of experience in an office setting applying elementary knowledge of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures
- 2 years of experience in an office setting applying elementary knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures
- 2 years of experience in an office setting performing detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems
- 2 years of experience in an office setting evaluating accounting problems of moderate difficulty and analyzing and interpreting less complex accounting records and reports
- 2 years of experience in an office setting performing detailed work involving written or numerical data and making mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
