Job Responsibilities

Under administrative direction, designs, implements and operates the highly technical statewide network which includes backbone and access circuits, routers, switches, and Point of Presence migrating to a converged network to include voice, video, and other services. Designs, implements and maintains network access, control, performance, and disaster recovery standards that directly impact employee and external constituents throughout the state. Travels to and meets with customers to obtain customer requirements.
Uses vendor tools and lifts up to 75 pounds in the installation of equipment. Provides tier 3 support to staff in Regional Technology Centers (RTC), Network Services, Communications Management Center (CMC) and constituents and serves on-call basis for the more complex issues and to receive assignments. Resolves a diverse set of problems using problem-solving skills and diagnostic methods and tools. Assists with large- scale project planning including vendor comparison and cost studies. Provides direct support to constituents on a wide variety of services and technical support. Performs network services to constituents that result in commercially acceptable levels of user/customer satisfaction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of college with course work in computer engineering, computer science or directly related fields, supplemented by three years of professional experience in a related IT field. Requires extensive knowledge of hardware and software, languages, and procedures to provide assigned technical and analytical services. Requires the ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships; coordinate the activities of work associates; and analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment. Requires the ability to utlize agency supplied materials/equipment (e.g., pager, cell phone, blackberry, etc.). Requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Requires a valid, appropriate driver's license and/or the ability to travel. Cisco CCNA/CCDA Certification (routing & switching), Cisco Qualified Specialist Certification (Video, VoIP, Security, Wireless, Optical) is preferred.
Specialized Skills: Requires education/experience as outlined above in the following: telecommunications, network hardware/software, TCP/IP and Routing Protocol Design (ISIS, OSPF, BGPv4, MP-BGP, MBGP); WAN design; testing and turning up Telco circuits (OC48, OC12, OC3, DS3, Tl, El, ISDN, 56K, Pots, Fiber Optical Services). Requires education/experience as outlined above in IP Multicast Design (MSDP, Anycast RP, PIM-SM), QoS Architecture, Network Diagnostic Tool Integration (Packet Sniffers, IPERF, SLA Enforcement), MPLS (LOP, LSP Troubleshooting, RFC 2547 VPNs, Pseudowires, MPLS Traffic Engineering), IPSEC VPNs, network security tools, Perl, IP Video, VoIP, SNMP, Network Management tool creation and integration and/or capacity planning.

 

Requires the ability to successfully complete a nationwide background check, which includes fingerprints and photograph, as defined by IRS Pub 1075.
