Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse II. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.
Essential Functions
- Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services.
- Monitors and reviews the various functions carried out by the lower-level nurses.
- Reviews record keeping functions.
- Serves as lead worker to lower-level nurses.
- Maintains adequate supply and security of medical equipment.
- Reviews medical records and completes health summary forms for individual in custody transfers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires (A) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience. OR (B) a bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years of professional experience. OR (C) a master's degree in nursing.
- Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least two (2) years of nursing experience in a correctional setting.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working in the mental health.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience problem solving in a nursing position.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working on an interdisciplinary team.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience in a leadership role.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
