Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a highly motivated Account Technician I. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, task orientated, and an organized individual with attention to detail. Essential Functions

  • Prepares obligation documents for approval for goods and services needed.
  • Performs detailed entry into Systems Application and Products (SAP), the automated accounting system to obligate general revenue and other funds.
  • Provides back-up and assistance to the cashier function.
  • Performs detailed entry into both automated and manual database systems.
  • Serves as back-up to the facility's Payroll Account Technician I.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirement for this class.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience within a large organization utilizing a competitive bidding process and highly structured procurement system.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience writing specifications for Invitation For Bids, Request For Proposals, or modifications and amendments.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience research/fact gathering relating to procurement.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year securing cost-effective quality products and/or services.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience utilizing standard accounting software applications such as Microsoft Excel or other comparable spreadsheet applications.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience compiling information from various documentation sources.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in a payroll department reviewing and entering payroll information for processing.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience following and implementing payroll policies and procedures.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in an office setting.
