Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a licensed Registered Nurse to serve as Associate Director of Nursing and to oversee and supervise professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients as the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois. Madden Mental Health Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Associate Nursing Director and in compliance with established professional nursing practices and standards on assigned adult residential pavilions.

  2. Serves as full-line supervisor.

  3. Confirms general health and nursing care needs are met for all patients in the program area.

  4. Develops and maintains good interpersonal relations with staff.

  5. Performs and documents regular patient visits in order to evaluate the utilization of the Nursing Quality Improvement Plan.

  6. Attends meetings, public and private conferences, workshops and seminars to remain current in educational trends, procedures and equipment.

  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

  2. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with coursework in nursing.

  3. Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

  2. Three (3) years of professional experience working in a psychiatric hospital. 

  3. Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off and preparing and signing performance evaluations.

  4. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards. 

  5. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending oversight of treatment plans, scheduling logistics/movement of patients within the hospital for admissions and discharges.

  6. Three (3) years of professional experience providing training to paraprofessional and professional nursing staff.

  7. Three (3) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatments provided to patients.

  8. Three (3) years of professional experience working with current diagnostic and treatment modalities for psychiatric patients.

  9. Three (3) years of professional experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders in oral and written form relative to the care and treatment of patients.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

  3. Requires the ability to serve as Administrator on 24-hour call, after business hours, weekends and holidays.

  4. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  5. This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public.
