Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Officer Lieutenant for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to serve as shift commander on an assigned shift at Madden Mental Health Center. Provides leadership and directs and supervises lower security staff engaged in the provision of safety and protection services for persons and property. Provides documentation of incidents for facility records according to policies and procedures and accreditations standards. Conducts security needs studies for a respective shift. Coordinates the Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigations in accordance with the State statutes.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as shift commander on an assigned shift at Madden Mental Health Center.
  2. Serves as working supervisor.
  3. Conducts security needs studies for a respective shift.
  4. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school. 
  2. Requires two years of experience in safety and protection service or in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Three (3) years of professional experience working security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.  
  2. Five (5) years of professional experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
  3. Two (2) years of professional experience in the use of security enforcement practices and techniques and supervisory practices. 
  4. Two (2) years of professional experience providing leadership, directing, and supervising staff for a public or private organization.
  5. Two (2) years of professional experience providing initial responses to security breaches and safety hazards.
  6. Two (2) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  7. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word and Excel software programs. 

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires a valid driver’s license.
  2. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  3. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  4. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  5. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours:  2:00pm - 10:00pm, Days off: Friday & Saturday
