Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Security Officer Sergeant for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to perform a variety of security duties on an assigned shift. Serves as lead worker to lower-level security officers on the assigned shift. Conducts investigations into allegations initiated by patients, staff and/or visitors. Responds to disturbance/assistance codes on patient treatment units. Provides leadership, direction and training in safety and security matters.
Essential Functions
- Conducts investigations into allegations initiated by patients, staff and/or visitors of personal threats, abuse, thefts, burglaries, vandalism, patient injuries, traffic accidents within the guidelines of Office of Inspector General (OIG) and other regulatory bodies on an assigned shift.
- Serves as lead worker to lower-level staff.
- Responds to disturbance/assistance codes on patient treatment units.
- Provides leadership, direction and training in safety and security matters to other departments i.e. fire procedures, searches for contraband, filing police reports related to criminal assaults and violence in the workplace.
- Prepares daily summary reports of all work activities and advises oncoming shift of activities on previous shift.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Requires one (1) year of experience in safety and protection service or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with security requirements and regulations for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with emergency response procedures including fire safety and controls for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience participating/conducting investigations into allegations of burglaries, vandalism, patient injuries, and traffic accidents.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing leadership, directing, and supervising staff for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience preparing reports.
- Three (3) years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to climb stairs, chase runaways and physically restrain and control patients as necessary to prevent injury to patient or others.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to become OIG rule 50.3 certified within 90 days of employment.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, holidays including being mandated to work.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires the ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to work in a 24 hour “on-call” capacity.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: 10:00pm-6:00am; Tuesday-Saturday; Off Sunday and Monday; 30-minute paid lunch
