Position Overview

The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville, Illinois is seeking to hire an accountant for their Business Office to perform independent professional accounting tasks involving phases of accounting, internal auditing, fiscal reporting, fiscal management, and maintenance. In addition, the accountant will review and verify accuracy and appropriateness of Locally Held Funds utilizing a Quick Books program as well as acts as custodian for Petty Cash Funds. 

Job Responsibilities

  1.  Reviews and verifies accuracy and appropriateness of financial documents and data on the state of Illinois Accountability, Credibility, Transparency, Sustainability (ACTS) Standard Accounting Program.
  2. Performs independently professional accounting tasks involving phases of accounting, internal auditing, fiscal reporting, fiscal management, and maintenance.
  3. Reviews and verifies accuracy and appropriateness of Locally Held Funds utilizing a QuickBooks program.
  4. Act as custodian for Petty Cash Funds.
  5. Meets with and discusses inter/intra agency staff and contractors to reconcile complex issues.
  6. Meets with Unit Supervisor on a regular basis concerning staff and procedures.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting OR four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
  2. Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  3. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.

Work Hours:  Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm
