Position Overview
The Illinois School for the Deaf– Morgan County, is seeking to hire a dynamic Assistant Principal to perform assistive administrative work in the K-12 educational program. The Assistant Principal will serve as a supervisor in the planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of programs for deaf and hard of hearing students. The Assistant Principal will also advise teachers in the use of special methods and techniques for instructing students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing. The Assistant Principal manages Individual Education Plans (IEP) meetings and communicates with and counsels’ students using American Sign Language.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as Assistant High School Principal for the Illinois School for the Deaf in a K-12 education program(s) for students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Serves as a school administrator for and assisting with, scheduling for Eligibility Reviews (ER), Individuals Education Plans (IEP), transition meetings, and planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational support services including transition services.
- Serves as a school administrator for establishing and reviewing educational curricula, lesson plans and progress for students.
- Serves as a school administrator for ensuring educational programs are compliant with school codes, state and federal statutes and regulations, including formulating, interpreting, and executing educational policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a master’s degree in education of the deaf or a directly related field and a current and valid Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)-issued Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative Endorsement.
- Requires three (3) years of experience in teaching students who are deaf at the high school level.
- Requires ability to communicate in sign language at the advanced level.
Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)
- Five (5) years of teaching experience with students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in the administration of a K-12 education program(s) for students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing.
- Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off, and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
- Three (3) years of professional experience planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational support services including transition services for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience establishing and reviewing educational curricula, lesson plans and progress for students including Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Three (3) years of professional experience ensuring educational programs are compliant with school codes, state and federal statutes and regulations.
