Position Overview
The Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) is a large residential school serving students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing. This mission of ISD is to engage students in a supportive, safe, and nurturing environment to achieve personal excellence academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. ISD is seeking to hire a Director of the Student Life to supervise and evaluate the residential, food service and health care programs at the school. ISD is seeking to hire an individual with strong leadership and communication skills for this position.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as Director of the Student Life Program at the Illinois School for the Deaf.
- Evaluates all areas of the Student Life programming.
- Remains current with all applicable laws, polices, and regulations related to a residential and educational setting.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Coordinates budget needs and expenditures for Student Life Program.
- Serves as school Title IX informal coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in education, child psychology, social work administration or closely related field.
- Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative experience in a residential school setting.
- Requires ability to pass the Agency sign language assessment at the advanced level.
Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)
- Three (3) years of professional experience in the administration of a residential program within a K-12 educational program for students who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing.
- Three (3) years of professional experience working with residential and/or educational programming ensuring compliance with applicable health, safety, education and residential childcare policies, procedures and laws.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with the diverse needs of individuals who are Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing.
- Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
- Two (2) years of professional experience communicating clearly and tactfully orally and/or in written form with a wide range of individuals such as state agency officials, public, families, advocates, internal and external stakeholders.
- Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating programs and recommending policies and procedures for a public or private entity.
- One (1) year of professional experience developing and managing a program budget.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
Work Hours: Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm
