Position Overview
The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a position to organize and develop a comprehensive program of recreational activities for students attending Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). This position recruits, interviews, assigns, and supervises volunteers working in volunteer services program; supervises college workers and interprets the work of the recreation department to ISVI employees, students, volunteers, and others when needed; requisitions recreational equipment and supplies. Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports on ISVI recreation program; and participates in staff meetings and assists in developing methods and procedures to be followed during recreational activities.
Essential Functions
- Organizes and develops a comprehensive program of recreational activities for students attending Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
- Recruits, interviews, assigns, and supervises volunteers working in volunteer services’ program.
- Interprets the work of the recreation department to ISVI employees, students, volunteers, and others when needed.
- Requisitions recreational equipment and supplies.
- Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports on ISVI recreation.
- Participates in staff development through staff conferences, individual guidance, and in-service training programs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
- Requires one (1) year professional experience in recreation in an institution or community setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of professional experience working in the therapeutic and educational aspects of recreation for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with the methods, techniques, and purposes of recreation activities.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with recreation programming for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of professional experience utilizing recreation skills for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with community services and resources in recreation.
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with departmental regulations, policies, and proper channels of communications as they apply to the recreation section.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements.

Work Hours: Mon-Fri, 1:00pm-9:30pm (see additional comments), 30 minute unpaid lunch.
On travel days and days students are not on campus will work 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
