Position Overview: 

The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Justice Services is seeking a detail oriented and service focused Building/Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. Versatile Building Maintenance Technician skilled in performing a wide range of semi-skilled repair and facility upkeep tasks. Experienced in minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and small equipment repair. Adept at installing office furniture and partitions, repairing doors and windows, replacing carpet tiles, patching drywall and ceiling tiles, and servicing systems such as humidifiers, water detection units, and reverse osmosis water systems. Supports HVAC efficiency through routine filter changes and general maintenance. Proficient with hand and power tools and capable of completing nonskilled building and grounds work, including snow removal. Provides comprehensive janitorial services, floor care, restroom sanitation, waste removal, and lunchroom cleaning to maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment. Conducts regular inspections to identify hazards, security concerns, or property damage. Acts as point of contact for emergency repairs in the absence of a supervisor, coordinating with landlords or service providers as needed. ISP encourages all those who qualify to apply!

Essential Functions

  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to building maintenance. 
  • Performs a variety of non-skilled building and grounds work. 
  • Completes a variety of indoor janitorial duties. 
  • Inspects building and grounds checking for hazards, evidence of forced entry, or property damage. 
  • In the absence of immediate supervisor, contacts landlord or agents to schedule emergency plumbing or electrical repair. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school plus one year of maintenance work experience preferably associated with the building and mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation. 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass a background check, drug test, and fingerprinting. 
  • Requires ability to lift carry, push and/or pull items weighing up to 100 pounds. 
  • Requires valid driver's license.
