Position Overview

Under general direction of the Business Manager, stores, issues and delivers items received. Supervises supply supervisors and individuals in custody. Provides training to staff. Directs regular periodic inventory of all warehouse and commissary stores. Monitors safety and security of facility. Reports information affecting operation/security of facility. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Supervises staff, assigns and reviews work in the warehouse and commissary at the Joliet Treatment Center. 
  2. Monitors the receiving of merchandise, preparation of reports, issuance of items and perpetual inventory systems.
  3. Coordinates and assists department heads in preparation of requisitions for stock needs.
  4. Estimates needs and prepares orders.
  5. Establishes and maintains inventory records on received items.
  6. Monitors daily record systems involving receiving tickets and store requisitions from Department Supervisors.
  7. Ensures proper packaging and shipping tickets are affixed to items being shipped or sent out for shipping.
  8. Monitors the safety and security of the facility relating to performance of assigned duties.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school or completion of an approved training course.
  2. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Thorough knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures.
  2. Thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations, and requirements for the control of individuals in custody.
  3. Thorough knowledge of inventory and other control methods and procedures.
  4. Extensive knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures, uses and grading of different types of merchandise.
  5. Working knowledge of transportation agencies and shipping, purchasing and requisitioning methods and procedures.
  6. Completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  7. Physical ability to carry out assigned duties.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to pass the Illinois Department of Corrections background check. 
  2. Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy.  The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
