Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Cosmetologist for Joliet Treatment Center. This individual will provide hair and facial care treatment, and coordinate the operation of the Facility Hair Care Area. In addition, they will maintain sanitary conditions and comply with current health standards, maintain records and make reports, and schedule services for individuals in custody. Essential Functions
- Provides hair and facial care treatment.
- Coordinates the operation of the Facility Hair Care Area in Programs.
- Maintains Hair Care Area in a sanitary condition and meets current health standards.
- Maintains records and makes reports to the multi-disciplinary treatment team on the progress of individuals in custody.
- Schedules services for individuals in custody.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires possession of a current Illinois license as a cosmetologist issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers possession of a current Illinois License as a hair braider.
- Prefers possession of a current Illinois License as a barber.
- Prefers three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of hair care shop equipment.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience using modern methods and techniques of beauty and hair care.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience in ordering supplies and inventory as needed.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience in instructing others in performing hair care and facial services.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience in scheduling own appointments and making own schedule.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience in providing hair and facial treatments to individuals in custody.
- Prefers one (1) year of experience in recordkeeping relating to services performed.
Conditions of Employment
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
