Position Overview

Under general supervision for the Division of Justice Services/Bureau of Identification, provides first line support to users of Illinois State Police applications, department approved packaged software applications, and automated equipment. Performs troubleshooting, diagnosis, and problem resolution of workstation software and hardware. Performs special assignments and projects for management personnel with respect to securing and identifying current and impending software application problems. Develops training/handout materials for users specific to software applications.

Essential Functions

  • Provides first line help desk support to users of the Illinois State Police software applications.
  • Provides support for Illinois State Police workstation software and hardware, to enable users to utilize software, personal computers, printers, or other peripheral equipment.
  • Performs special assignments and projects for management personnel with respect to securing and identifying current and impending software applications problems. Works with vendors or other support staff to resolve problems.
  • Develops training/handout materials for users specific to software applications.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields. 
  • Requires one year of related Information Technology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers one (1) year professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others
  • Prefers one (1) year experience analyzing data logically and exercising sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Prefers one (1) year experience of professional oral and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
  • Prefers one (1) year working knowledge of hardware and software languages, and procedures to provide assigned practical and analytical services.
  • Prefers one (1) year working knowledge of Windows operating systems for personal computers and servers and office related software applications and databases
