Position Overview
Under general direction, serves as the assistant manager for the clinical components within Shapiro Developmental Center’s Dietary department. As director of clinical dietary services, the dietary manager directs the participation of dietitians in interdisciplinary meetings and staff development trainings associated with individuals’ diets and nutritional needs. Develops and implements training programs in the Dietary Unit. Ensures compliance with applicable dietary hospital policies and procedures related to program areas.
Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as the assistant manager for the clinical components within Shapiro Developmental Center’s Dietary department. Directs the participation of dietitians in interdisciplinary meetings and staff development trainings associated with individuals’ diets and nutritional needs.
2. Serves as a working supervisor.
3. Aids the Dietary Manager II in assessing the nutritional components and the food/drug interactions of food items within the regular and modified diets developed in accordance with the clinical recommendations of the dieticians and the interdisciplinary teams.
4. Instructs production supervisors and dietary staff in basic clinical aspects of food production.
5. Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and accuracy of nutritional programs; recommends and implements changes to improve process.
6. Develops and implements training programs in the Dietary Unit. Conducts or facilitates training for staff on new initiatives and programs.
7. Participates in facility standing committees and regularly attends semi-monthly professional staff meetings.
8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with courses in dietetics.
- Requires one year of professional experience in a large-scale food service program.
- Requires the following for positions within the Department of Human Services, requires possession of a Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate (FSSMC) issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health, or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP).
* Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires extensive knowledge of dietetics and food services management, including nutritional values, costs and accounting.
- Requires working knowledge of health and sanitary requirements applicable to a large-scale food service.
- Requires the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm M-F with Sat/Sun regular days off.
