Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse 2 for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to independently perform a variety of skilled practical nursing functions to individuals with intellectual disabilities. Administers prescribed medication and injections ensuring that the Medication Administration Record (MAR) is completed accurately during the administration of medication. Maintains accurate and current MAR’s and treatment sheets, including nursing notes, making changes per Physician orders. Observes, records and reports to physicians and registered nurses the symptoms, reactions, and changes in the condition of individuals and assists in maintaining documentation. Trains lower level staff to observe individuals’ physical condition. Complies with Public Health regulations and Department and Facility policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions to individuals with intellectual disabilities at the Shapiro Center.
- Independently performs a variety of skilled practical nursing functions and administers medication to individuals with intellectual disabilities as the Shapiro Center.
- Documents a monthly progress note for each individual in accord with facility procedures.
- Transcribes physician orders.
- Monitors designated meal periods to ensure food intake and feeding precautions are followed and to respond to medical emergencies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires Illinois license as a Practical Nurse.
- Requires one year of practical nursing experience.
*This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Requires ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Requires ability to follow facility policies and procedures.
- Requires ability to apply simple nursing techniques as delegated by physicians or professional nurses.
- Requires ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires ability to travel.
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours: 10:30 am - 11:00 pm
Week 1 - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday; Week 2 - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Friday; Rotating every 2 weeks
