Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a licensed Registered Nurse to serve as Nursing Supervisor at the Shapiro Development Center located in Kankakee Illinois. This energetic and detail-oriented person will supervise professional and paraprofessional staff, ensuring twenty-four-hour supervisory coverage, directing staff on individuals’ needs and the implementation of treatment plans and reviewing nursing assessments and nursing care plans for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of plans. The Shapiro Development Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as full-line supervisor.

2. Serves as Nursing Supervisor over professional Registered Nurses on an assigned unit and shift. 

3. Oversees the unit medical program.

4. Attends and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team at meetings and drills such as in cases of chest pain, choking, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), head injury, seizure, etc.

5. Develops training curriculum and test questionnaires.

6. As part of a team, reviews, updates, and implements nursing policies and procedures according to the latest trends and nursing standards.

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

2. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.

3. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)

1. Three (3) years of professional nursing experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or developmental disabilities.

2. Three (3) years of professional experience supervising professional nursing staff.

3. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.

4. One (1) year of professional experience training nursing staff on nursing care practices and techniques.

5. One (1) year of professional nursing experience communicating in verbal or written form with individuals.

6. One (1) year of professional experience completing and conducting employee performance evaluations.

7. One (1) year of professional experience recommending and implementing disciplinary actions following collective bargaining agreements.

8. One (1) year of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatments provided to individuals.

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to work after business hours, weekend and holidays on a rotation basis as Administrator On Duty (AOD).

Work Hours:  4 days/week, 6:00am - 4:30pm; Rotating weekend/holiday coverage; 1 weekend/month; Rotating Days Off
