Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care services to individuals served at the Shapiro Center; prepares individuals for medical treatments, monitors vital signs, examines individuals and monitors physical conditions and reactions to treatments; administers prescribed oral medications; documents and administered medications and treatments. Attends treatment team meetings advises team on initial assessment and findings for newly admitted individuals.  Completes Daily Nurses log and provides oncoming nursing staff an updated report at the beginning of his/her shift.  On a rotation basis, provides professional nursing care services to other units within the Shapiro Center.  Ensures compliance with facility, department and Public Health policies and procedures. 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing.  Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.  This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires working knowledge of diversified professional nursing principles, concepts and practices.  Requires working knowledge of set up, application and use and care of specialized nursing equipment.  Requires working knowledge of pharmacology of commonly prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions.  Requires ability to provide professional nursing care based on orders of the physician and the specific needs of the individual.  Requires ability to evaluate individual condition and behavior and prepare accurate detailed records of such observation.  Requires ability to apply emergency medical techniques such as CPR, control of bleeding, airway maintenance.  Requires ability to instruct non-nursing personnel in the proper practices and procedures of individual care.  Requires ability to maintain security of the work area and comply with facility rules, regulations and policies and directives.  

Employment Conditions

Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

 

Work Hours: 

6:30 am - 7:00 pm

10:30 am - 11:00 pm

Rotating days off which include every other weekend off
